BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT
What We Offer

There is no right or wrong way to grieve after a significant loss. Livingston Memorial Visiting Nurse Association (LMVNA) & Hospice sponsors adult bereavement support groups as part of its hospice program. They are free of charge and open to individuals who have experienced a loss. Individuals need not be affiliated with someone who has been in, or is in the care of LMVNA. The group provides a safe and comfortable environment that encourages each member to explore and express feelings, better understand the grieving process, and receive emotional and educational support. Please contact LMVNA for more information about a bereavement support group.

LMVNA also offers bereavement support and counseling on an individual basis, support specialized for adolescents and children, and support for Spanish speakers.

What is offered?

  • Someone to talk to, and just a phone call away.
  • Literature related to specific types of loss (also available in Spanish).
  • Weekly bereavement support groups.
  • Guest speakers and in-depth educational experiences related to loss and grief.
  • Crisis counseling related to public tragedies.
  • Spanish-speaking counselors are available for children, adolescents and adults.
  • Bereavement support services are offered in conjunction with the LMVNA hospice program, as well as to the community at large at no cost.
  • The LMVNA staff includes licensed medical social workers, licensed marriage family child therapists, chaplains and volunteers specializing in grief support.

What can I expect from working with a grief support specialist or group?

Livingston Memorial’s grief counselors hope to help individuals:

  • Develop coping skills.
  • Increase independence and autonomy.
  • Create new social support systems.
  • Rediscover a sense of hope.
